How We Review Games
Mixorygame reviews are written after a minimum commitment of hours, not a weekend flyover. This page describes what that looks like, so you know what our scores actually mean.
Time commitment
- Single-player games: minimum one full playthrough, plus side content.
- Live-service RPGs & ARPGs: minimum 40 hours, including endgame.
- MMOs & expansions: minimum 80 hours, covering leveling, dungeons, and at least one raid or endgame system.
Scoring
We use a 1 – 10 scale with a half-point resolution. Scores map to:
- 9.0 – 10 — Essential, genre-defining
- 8.0 – 8.5 — Excellent, highly recommended
- 7.0 – 7.5 — Good, worth your time
- 6.0 – 6.5 — Mixed, wait for a sale or a patch
- 5.0 – 5.5 — Mediocre, only for genre diehards
- < 5.0 — Avoid
Scoring pillars
Every review weighs five pillars: core loop, endgame / long-term retention, systems design, performance & polish, and value. The weighting shifts by genre — we say so in each review.
Review copies & access
We accept review copies and pre-release access. Receipt of a review copy has zero effect on the final score. Where a reviewer has access to the publisher’s beta or private Discord, that fact is disclosed at the top of the review.
Re-reviews
Live-service games are re-reviewed annually, or after major expansions. An updated score and a link to the original review will be visible on the article.
